Rappelz is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The game is developed by the Korean company nFlavor which the publishing company Gala-Net Inc bought in 2007. Although Rappelz is free-to-play, revenue for the game is gained through sale of special items through the "Cash Shop". But purchasing items through Cash Shop is not necessary to prosper in the game

The game is set in a fantasy world, dominated by three races: the Deva, who represent light, the Asura, who represent darkness, and the Gaia, humans that possess an affinity with nature.[2]

Each major installment of the game is referred to as an "Epic", similar to Lineage II's "Chronicles", the current installment being "Epic 4. Revolution".
